Introduction to New Working Methods

The New Working Methods platform is a collaborative drafting platform for ETSI and 3GPP specifications. It offers a complete in-document experience for drafting and collaborating on ETSI and 3GPP specifications. NWM is accessed from a web browser, with the data stored in a database. It does not use Microsoft Word file formats.

NWM allows standards committee delegates to edit and make contributions to a specification. These contributions can be reviewed in NWM before being decided upon. Once accepted, contributions are merged into the specification, creating a new version. Conflicting contributions are flagged and can be resolved before merging. A full history of changes is retained. This is known as the Workflow in NWM.

With NWM, each person edits their own contributions. They do not jointly edit the same document.

NWM provides the full range of editing capabilities required for editing standards and specifications. NWM provides automatic checking against ETSI and 3GPP drafting rules with in-editor warnings. It manages references and abbreviations and will automaticall build these lists. It is connected to other ETSI and 3GPP databases and can import data when needed (e.g. specification titles etc.)

NWM also offers a text commenting feature or Discussion Threads.
